Meet the Doctors Parkside Dental Team

Parkside Dental Team
Dr. Steven Cohen was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from the Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1986. Years later, he moved to Michigan to practice General Dentistry. Dr. Cohen is an active member of the Detroit Communities and frequently volunteers his time and services to local programs and events. For almost two decades, he has maintained a commitment to educating children on the importance of Dental Health during Children’s Dental Health Awareness Month. To Date, his Dental Awareness Programs have reached more than 20,000 children. In addition, Dr. Cohen participates in the Dearborn Senior Health Fair each year. Dr. Cohen is a member of the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, the Detroit District Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Carl O. Boucher Prosthodontic Society. He is also a member of DOCS, the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, and is the co-founder of the Dream Dentistry Network, a group of local dentists who devote a portion of their dental practices to caring for patients with dental anxiety. Dr. Cohen enjoys all aspects of General Dentistry and has a special interest in Cosmetic Dentistry and Periodontal Prosthesis—a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment, correction and maintenance of patients with cases of advanced and/or debilitating gum disease. Dr. Cohen is married and has four children. He is an avid fisherman and a member of the Backlashers Bass Club of Livonia. He also enjoys reading and is dedicated to lifelong personal growth, self-improvement, and positive thinking. Memberships
Ricardo Seir, DDS
Dr. Ricardo Seir was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. He attended the Central University of Venezuela School of Dentistry and graduated 5th in his class in 1993. In his last year of dental school, Dr. Seir met his future wife, and in 1994, the two moved to Michigan to pursue their Masters Degrees at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Years later, Dr. Seir became a specialist in Restorative Dentistry. His wife became a Pediatric Dentist. Dr. Seir’s bilingualism makes him a unique member of the Parkside Dental Team. With Spanish as his first language, Dr. Seir serves many Spanish-speaking patients who had been unable to communicate with their dental healthcare providers in the past. In addition, he educates Spanish-speaking students on the importance of Dental Health during Children’s Dental Health Awareness Month. Dr. Seir belongs to the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, the Detroit District Dental Society, the Academy of Operative Dentistry, the Hispanic Dental Association, and the Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He has attended many continued education seminars and has given presentations for both the International Association of Dental Research and the Academy of Operative Dentistry. Dr. Seir enjoys all aspects of dentistry and has a special interest in Restorative Dentistry with emphasis in Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Seir has two children—Arianna, born in 2000 and Gabriel, born in 2002. He is a baseball fan and a music-lover, and enjoys singing, writing songs, playing the classical guitar, and performing for audiences in Ann Arbor cafes. Dr. Seir is also a member of the Venezuelan Society of Authors and Composers and placed second in a national songwriting contest in Venezuela in 1992. Memberships
Jerome Kurtis, DDS
In 1959, Dr. Jerome Kurtis established a dental practice on West Warren Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. He had a vision of a team practice that could provide quality dental services for the entire family. Dr. Kurtis’ practice flourished in the city of Detroit and between 1969 and 2003, he welcomed Dr. Stuart Felhandler, Dr. Daniel Rogers, Dr. Steven Cohen and Dr. Ricardo Seir to share in his vision. After practicing dentistry for over 40 years, Dr. Kurtis retired in December of 2004. Today, Parkside Dental Team continues to match Dr. Kurtis’ standards of excellence in family dentistry. Stuart Felhandler, DDS
Dr. Stuart Felhandler was born and raised in Detroit. He attended the University of Detroit for his undergraduate studies and went on to graduate from the University of Detroit School of Dentistry in 1967. He then served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service at the Federal Penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas where he worked as a dentist. Dr. Felhandler was later asked to join Dr. Jerome Kurtis in the practice of General Dentistry in Detroit. Dr. Felhandler is a member of the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, and the Detroit District Dental Society, and has attended hundreds of hours of continued education seminars, many of which have recently focused on Cosmetic Dentistry. He enjoys all aspects of dentistry and has a special interest in Children’s Dental Healthcare and Root Canal Therapy. Dr. Felhandler has been married to his wife, Marcia, for 40 years. He has 3 children and enjoys spending time with his grandchildren. He is an avid sports fan and a Detroit Pistons fanatic. Dr. Felhandler also likes to golf and has a unique appreciation for the beauty and serenity of golf courses. Memberships
Daniel Rogers, DDS
Dr. Daniel Rogers was born and raised in Detroit and graduated from the University of Detroit School of Dentistry in 1974. He practices all aspects of General Dentistry and specializes in Dental Implants. Dr. Rogers is a member of the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, and the Detroit District Dental Society, and has taken many post-graduate courses in the placement and restoration of Dental Implants. In his spare time, Dr. Rogers enjoys boating and working out. Memberships
