This patient presented with a broken bridge. She said her bridge was constantly falling out and breaking. A deeper look into the situation revealed her traumatic occlusion – her bite force was too high. Her heavy bite also has led to her front teeth flaring forward significantly, which she did not like. In this case, 24 units of porcelain veneers, crowns, and bridges were made to restore this patient’s bite and the overall aesthetics of her smile. She experienced zero sensitivity from start to finish. Her bite force is controlled by her wearing a bite guard at night while she sleeps. Treatment was completed in 2 visits, spaced 3 weeks apart.
An old ceramic bridge was too yellow for the patient’s liking, and there was a space on the patient’s left side that she wanted closed. A new ceramic bridge was made along with a single porcelain veneer to make things symmetrical. Additionally, bonding was placed on the canine teeth to make them fir in better and bring more harmony to the smile.
This patient sought an aesthetic and functional solution to his smile. He stated that he has never been able to bite into a sandwich. This case had several factors that needed to be addressed: a missing tooth on the lower right, an open bite and misalignment of the teeth, and a single dark tooth. The best option for this patient was to undergo Invisalign to get his front teeth closer together – close enough to approximate the open bite using 4 porcelain veneers. The veneers would solve his single dark tooth problem. This patient could have skipped the Invisalign treatment, but then the 4 porcelain veneers would have looked too long. Taking the time to undergo treatment in the correct order paid off. The patient is very happy with his new smile and his bite. Total treatment time: 20 months.
This teenage patient was missing two teeth from birth. She went through braces at her orthodontist but had no plan afterwards. Composite bonding was added to her teeth to restore the natural shape of the teeth and make it appear as if she is not missing any teeth. She will likely have porcelain veneers made later in her life.
A single dark tooth is usually the result of an injury to the tooth nerve. These teeth can be treated from the inside with a root canal and internal bleaching – or from the outside with a porcelain veneer. This patient’s nerve was so damaged, that a root canal could not be performed even by a specialist. The nerve space was blocked. The decision to cover the tooth with a porcelain veneer was made. However, due to her concerns of a single porcelain veneer matching the shape and shade of her other teeth, she elected to treat her front 4 teeth with porcelain veneers for better symmetry and harmony. The effect of porcelain veneers will work best when every tooth seen in the smile is treated. However, sometimes that is not feasible. With good photography, tooth shade communication with the laboratory will lead to an excellent result in blending porcelain veneers into the rest of the smile.
With age, teeth become worn and gray. This patient wanted a complete smile makeover. She wanted very white and youthful-looking teeth. This is a combination of porcelain veneers, crowns, and bridges, all blended together beautifully because they were all placed at the same time. Soft/round corners on teeth equate to a youthful look (no signs of tooth wear/aging) and the shade she selected was a bleach shade. She was very happy with her choice!
This patient wanted straight and white teeth. He declined the option of Invisalign and subsequent Zoom whitening because in addition to the color and alignment, he also did not like the shape of his teeth. They were too sharp and worn down. 20 porcelain veneers were made and placed in order to restore his bite and smile
This patient has a long span bridge, which was over 20 years old and she was tired of the way it looked, stating she never liked it from the beginning. A new bridge was made, as well as single unit porcelain restorations for the rest of her teeth. This restore harmony to her smile.
The front 6 teeth had old bonding from years ago – the bonding had decay and needed to be treated. Options of porcelain restorations and/or new bonding was presented to the patient. She elected for bonding. All decay was removed and new bonding was placed in a better shade suited to match the rest of her teeth.
This patient was missing his front tooth for decades. He wore a flipper, but he lost it. He wanted a permanent fix. Since there was not enough bone for a dental implant – a bridge was made. The space was divided equally to make two same-sized teeth, allowing for a more balanced smile.
A dental condition called oligodontia in which there are several missing and some abnormally shaped teeth left this young patient’s smile in disharmony. Dental bonding was placed on several teeth due to the patient and his father’s request of ‘no drilling’. No numbing or drilling was required to achieve this result. Photo was made immediately after the procedure, which took only 90 minutes.
This patient had healthy kids of Michigan dental insurance. His teeth were treated in several phases, eventually removing all his decay and restoring his smile. He was 17 years old, and he was very happy to receive a second chance at dental health. Working with his dental insurance required this case to take 2 years – but everything was completed at no cost to the patient – his insurance covered everything.
This patient had 6 porcelain crowns placed 20 years ago. Since then, her teeth have shifted. By placing porcelain veneers over her back teeth as well as making new porcelain crowns for the front teeth, it was possible to fill the buccal corridor – the space between her teeth and cheek – and give the appearance of a fuller smile.
This patient wanted a comprehensive treatment plan but suffered from dental anxiety. He was told by a previous dentist that he could not wear an upper denture because his palate was too narrow. After discussing options, we settled on making an implant-retained snap-in upper denture and a lower porcelain bridge. His bite was evened out, and his smile was restored.
This is a young patient who had a bridge placed when he was a child due a tooth being knocked out. He subsequently broke the porcelain-metal bridge in a similar way. With decay on his other teeth, a restoration using 8 units of porcelain crown & bridge was offered. The patient wanted a white shade, so Zoom whitening was performed to whiten his lower teeth. A gum lift was also performed on the patient’s right side. This case was restored in 2020.
This patient has been missing her later incisors her whole life. After her braces were taken off at age 16, she was given a flipper, which she subsequently wore for the next 16 years. She wanted a solution, but she could not have dental implants due to thin bone. Two separate Maryland-bridges were made and cemented. These are single teeth restorations with a wing-like attachment which is cemented onto the back side of the tooth next to it (canine teeth). This is a very minimally invasive solution to a single missing tooth but can only be performed in certain circumstances.
This patient chose to restore her front teeth first before restoring her back teeth. That will be the second phase of treatment – dental implants and bridges. A heavier bite force on the front teeth causes them to wear down fast and break. Restoration requires a different type of porcelain, which is called Zirconia. Zirconia is used in some situations but not all – it is the strongest porcelain type, but its not as translucent as other porcelains. Material choice is discussed at the consultation.
This patient presented with an upper permanent implant bridge which was made 10 years ago. The material choice was acrylic – denture material. His heavy bite force led to its breaking over time. Additional issues such as an uneven smile, an overclosed bite, and too much gingival display on his right side, were all corrected. The final restoration is a zirconia implant bridge on top and a lower snap-in denture on bottom. The patient requested a purple tooth since that color was significant to him and his son. His bite was lifted, aesthetic and phonetic (speech) issues were resolved, and his confidence in his smile was restored.
This patient avoided the dentist for several years. What brought him in was a single tooth infection which he wanted to take care of. He did not like his smile but he was too skeptical to undergo extensive treatment. After treating his initial problem and gaining his confidence, together, we were able to restore his full smile with ceramic crowns. His confidence increased again and his smile is restored.
Orthodontic treatment was performed 20 years ago but relapsed, and this patient did not like his gap. He could not put his finger on other qualities of his smile that he did not like, but together, through photography, we discovered what he desired. It was discussed that in addition to the gap, this patient’s lateral incisors were different sizes and one of them was dark. Other corrections were made: we restored the natural shape of his canines (worn down through grinding), corrected the dark teeth stained by silver fillings, and evened out and corrected his bite.
This patient suffered a long bout of acid reflux which lead to the discoloration and early wear of her teeth. The enamel has thinned out significantly, leading to the exposure of the dentin – the inner layer of the tooth which is much more yellow in color. Final treatment with 12 units of porcelain crowns and bridges allowed the restoration of her smile and her confidence. By making these restorations fit under her gums, any acid reflux that she may experience in the future will not affect her natural teeth – they are fully covered and protected.
This patient seeks regular dental care, never missing a cleaning. After recommendations during her cleaning appointments she decided that it was time to place porcelain crowns on her teeth. She chose to first treat teeth that needed the most attention and then continue with 1-2 per year as her insurance allows. Porcelain crowns on her front two teeth have been in function for 6 years. Other teeth (lower arch) have been treated since then. Porcelain crowns have been the only long-lasting and effective treatment for her. Bonding does not stay in place because her enamel will not hold it – she has thin enamel due to a systemic illness.
This patient had cavities on her front teeth as well as a discolored bridge which was made a while ago. Her plan is to work with her insurance and restore her smile little by little as insurance only pays so much per year. This is the result of the first phase of treatment. A root canal was performed and then porcelain crowns and a porcelain bridge were placed. To be continued…!
No brush – This patient was a teenager with bad home care for reasons that were somewhat beyond her control. Her orthodontist refused to continue treatment and removed all her braces early in order for her teeth to be saved. Under all the yellow plaque was decay on the front of her teeth. Aesthetic and minimally invasive tooth colored fillings – also called bonding – was performed in order to restore this patient’s teeth and her confidence. Oral hygiene was reviewed thoroughly with the patient. This photo was taken 2 weeks after the procedure and only slight plaque is seen – a big improvement!
This patient had limited options due to the amount of teeth he had left. He knew his teeth were not in good shape and something needed to be done. Due to his advanced age, getting accustomed to a full denture would be very difficult. It is much easier to become accustomed to a denture in the age range of 40-60 years old, not 70+. His upper arch was treated with porcelain crowns and his lower arch was treated with 4 porcelain crowns and a removable partial (after some extractions). This was recommended to the patient on the basis of function – the ability to chew and digest food. A full jaw of dental implants was not feasible for this patient. The lower partial denture was made at the same time as the crowns, so the shade of the teeth matched very well!
This patient suffered from decay on most of her teeth. This occurred due to a change in her medication, leading to excessive dry mouth. In her case, full crowns were needed on most of her teeth to seal off the teeth at the root, under the gumline to protect best against root decay. In her case, 10 teeth were treated with her request of an age-appropriate porcelain shade as well as tooth shape similar to what she had. She wanted to have the effect of natural-looking teeth so that it would not appear that she went to the dentist and had all her teeth restored.
This patient had tooth decay, but he also had excessive gingival display. His gums showed too much in his smile. A gum lift was performed and then 10 porcelain veneers were placed. This allowed his teeth to become longer, as he wanted them. This photo was taken the day of cementation of the 10 porcelain veneers. His gum tissue will still take 2-3 weeks to fully heal and become pink again.
This patient is missing a tooth from childhood – her right lateral incisor tooth never formed. This is the second most common tooth anomaly, the most common is a missing wisdom tooth. What brought her in for consultation was the discoloration on her previous dental bonding. 10 porcelain veneers were made to restore her smile. The right side canine tooth was made to look like a lateral incisor, and the premolar was made to look like a canine. The porcelain shade selected was a natural shade and very close to what she had initially. She did not want overly white teeth. Her initial request of bonding could have been performed, but it was explained that this will not provide the result she is seeking, it will only lead to the enlargement of her canine. The back portion of her canine needed to be prepared off in order to “move” the tooth more toward the front. The final result is an even and harmonious smile that is easily maintained. The patient no longer has to deal with chipped bonding on a monthly or semi-monthly basis and she is confident in her new smile!
This patient suffered from a constantly chipping tooth (her front left) for several years. Other aspects of her smile were addressed in this treatment as well. The edges of the teeth were made more proportional. The lateral incisors should be, on average, 0.5mm shorter than the central incisors, and hers were 1.5mm. Restoration with minimally invasive porcelain veneers allowed the enamel to be maintained on her front teeth while still covering them for the best aesthetic result.
This patient requested the restoration of her left side missing teeth. Two solutions were offered to the patient: a problem-based solution and a comprehensive solution. The patient elected for comprehensive treatment of her upper arch. This allowed for the restoration of the bridge on her right side that was about to fail. In doing so, her bite was re-established so that she would show more upper teeth in her smile – erasing the wear patterns that had developed over time.

i was very nervous going to get my cleaning as i havent gone in over 5 years. (dont judge me) i had the best girl EVER doing my cleaning and her room was full of cool black light posters. she made me feel so comfortable and on top of that i had no cavities so i was happy leaving. excited for my next cleaning already 🙂

First appointment to replace two 1980s crowns. This dentistry is well run, well coordinated, and well timed. I left with two temp crowns installed in about an hour and a half with no pain. Feeling good about this.
I drive an hour just to go see Dr Dan. He and his staff make going to the dentist a lot less stressful. I would highly recommend their practice!
